  • The main ingredient is mostly peat moss or coco peat and vermiculite or perlite.

1. Peat moss

It lightens the mixture and allows it to remove more seeds faster, it is best suited to good drainage. It encourages the plant to maintain moisture.

Or Coir

It is made of coconut husks, which is easily available. Coir is an alternative choice for Peat Moss.

Or Cocopeat

Apart from this, Coco Peat is also a good alternative. The biggest advantage of using coco peat is that the production does not harm the environment. It also contains micronutrients and potassium which is neutral, which is opposite to peat and is acidic.

Apart from this, there are also some optional materials that you can use.

Leaf mold

Leaf mold is a type of compost, which leaves the garden to rot in a compost bin. You can also use the leaf mold to sow the seeds.

Bark humus

Bark Humus is an organic material, although many people are not familiar with it, it is an excellent and correct medium to change the composition of your soil and keep it healthy.

Wood fiber mix

Wood fiber mix is designed for the use of all purposes, during the development of the plant it provides high carbon proportions.

2. Perlite

The perlite is volcanic ash that heats up to high temperatures, which makes it “pop”, making sterile and light particles. Used to provide good drainage.

Three Basic potting mixture for seeds starting

01. Mixing seed start with compost

Finely sifted compost    made from cut leaves and straws           3 parts

Sphagnum peat moss and/or coir                                                     2 parts

Perlite                                                                                                      1 part

Vermiculite                                                                                            1 part

Place all these ingredients in a large pot and mix well.

02.Without compost seed starting mix

Finely sifted compost    made from cut leaves and straws           3 parts

Sphagnum peat moss  or coir                                                             1 part

Perlite                                                                                                      1 part

Vermiculite (Absorbing water made from mineral mica)            1 part

Lime                                                                                                         ¼ Mix 1/4 teaspoon lemon

with each gallon of peat moss.

Place all these ingredients in a large pot and mix well.

03.Seed starting mix with warm casting

Warm casting                                                                                       2 parts

Finely sifted compost made from cut leaves and straws               3 parts

Sphagnum peat moss or coir                                                             8 parts

Perlite                                                                                                     2 parts

Vermiculite                                                                                            1 part

Lime                                                                                                        ¼ Mix 1/4 teaspoon lemon

with each gallon of peat moss.

Place all these ingredients in a large pot and mix well.

Coir fiber can be found under a variety of trade names and in sizes ranging from a few quarts to bales that are many cubic feet in size. Sometimes the choice of media will be directed by what type of plants you are growing. Of course, you don’t have to purchase potting soil. You can make your own. Sure, it’s more work, but it can be more gratifying, plus you’ll know the exact contents of the soil since you’re the one who has mixed it up. A good potting mix recipe contains sterile garden loam, sand, peat moss or coconut coir and other additives as needed.

Classic Soil-Based Mix:

Peat moss (1 part) or mature compost

1 part garden loam or topsoil

Clean builder’s sand (1 part )or perlite
